Space Opera is the term Hubbard borrowed from the speculative fiction writing genre of the same name. In Scientology, Space Opera is considered a chronicle of actual events that took place in this universe since the beginning of time, dealing with alien civilizations (such as the Marcab Confederacy and the Helatrobus) and intergalactic battles (such as Incident II). It is considered literal history to Scientologists.
